Neil Diamond is in the news today, not only for being celebrated at the recent Kennedy Center Honors, but because of the somewhat disturbing confession he made regarding one of his most popular songs. Diamond claimed that the song “Sweet Caroline” was inspired by Caroline Kennedy, the then 4-year-old daughter of JFK. That would be cute and cuddly, if it weren’t for the fact that the lyrics to the song are quite romantic in nature. Tuxedoed skin crawled while Caroline Kennedy, when announcing the honorees, recited the lines, “Touching me, touching you.” So, it was no coincidence that three of the top 20 terms Googled today were “Neil Diamond,” “Sweet Caroline,” and “To Catch a Predator.” Chris Hanson may have a plate of cookies with Neil Diamond’s name all over them.
