Megan Ganz, a popular writer on NBC’s “Community,” is leaving the series for a job with “Modern Family.” Ganz, who’s written “Community” episodes such as “Basic Lupine Urology” and “Cooperative Calligraphy,” made the announcement on Reddit.

“Recently, I was offered a job writing for ‘Modern Family,’ and although it’s unclear what will happen with ‘Community’ for the fifth season (or the sixth season, or the movie), I’ve decided to take this new position,” she wrote. “Tomorrow is my first day and I’m excited and scared to start this new … well, everything. I’m sure the coffee will probably be the same.”

“Community” was pulled from its scheduled October 2012 premiere date and is being held until February 2013. During the show’s third season, “Community” was shelved midseason, much to the chagrin of fans who staged protests in hopes of getting NBC to reversed its decision. At the end of the third season, the show’s creator and showrunner Dan Harmon was fired.

After that tumultuous period of change and uncertainty, “Community” could be on its last legs at NBC. It’s difficult to blame Ganz for jumping ship to one of TV’s highest-rated and most critically-acclaimed comedies.

“Community” returns on Thursday, Feb. 7 at 8 p.m. EST on NBC.
