Jay Leno Talks With Craig Ferguson About Leaving ‘The Tonight Show’ (VIDEO)

It was a collision of late night worlds when Jay Leno jumped over to CBS as a guest on “The Late Late Show.” Of course, most of his conversation with Craig Ferguson wound up being about Leno’s exit from “The Tonight Show” to make way for Jimmy Fallon.

“What’s going on in late night television?” Ferguson cheekily asked Leno. “Anything going on?”

In talking about the transition, Leno said, “In TV you don’t know what’s working. You get pieces of paper with numbers on it.”

“I’ll tell you what, you do know if it’s working,” Ferguson said. “If you do it for 20 years and you’re the number one show, that probably means it’s working.”

“I’ll mention that to my bosses,” Leno said. He went on to say that he’s survived 14 different network presidents during his time as host of “The Tonight Show.” He then turned to fellow guest, comedian Cameron Esposito, and told her that she was the future of TV. “White men are on their way out,” he said.

As for what Leno has lined up for once he’s off “The Tonight Show”? He said he’ll tour more, but don’t look for him on reality television. He doesn’t consider that legitimate television.

For now, though, Leno continues his reign as the ratings king of late night on “The Tonight Show” every weeknight at 11:35 p.m. ET on NBC. “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson” airs weeknights at 12:37 a.m. ET on CBS.

TV Replay scours the vast television landscape to find the most interesting, amusing, and, on a good day, amazing moments, and delivers them right to your browser.
